Once installed, the extension works automatically. This page covers the controls available to employees, what gets detected, and where results appear in the Porcia app.

How detection works

The extension monitors for login events locally in the browser:

Login event detected

A form submission with a password field, an OAuth button click (Sign in with Google/Microsoft), or an SSO redirect is detected on a non-excluded domain.

Event created locally

The domain, detection method, work-email boolean, and timestamp are captured locally. No page content, URL paths, or credentials are touched.

Batch sync every 5 minutes

Events are bundled and sent to Porcia in batches. No real-time transmission.

Results appear in the app

Usage data feeds into Assets → Apps (login frequency), Security → Browser (AI usage, passwords, file uploads), and Dashboard → AI.

Extension popup controls

Click the Porcia icon in your toolbar to see:
  • Sync status — last sync time and connection state
  • Pause / Resume detection — immediately stops or restarts all event collection
  • Settings — opens the extension settings page
  • Sign out — disconnects the extension from your Porcia account

Pause detection

Pause detection at any time with one click. While paused:
  • No login events are collected
  • No data is transmitted to Porcia
  • The extension icon shows a paused indicator
Resume with one click. Pausing is per-device and doesn’t affect other team members.

Extension settings

Open settings from the popup (gear icon) or from chrome://extensions/ → Porcia → Extension options.

Domain exclusions

Add domains you never want tracked — personal projects, sensitive internal tools, anything you want excluded:
  1. Settings → Excluded Domains → Add Domain
  2. Enter the domain (e.g. personal-project.com)
  3. Save
Excluded domains are ignored permanently unless you remove them.

Incognito mode

Detection in incognito/private browsing is disabled by default. Enable in Settings if you need work logins in private browsing windows to be tracked (e.g. for shared devices).

Offline mode

Events detected while offline are stored locally and synced automatically when the connection is restored. No data is lost during brief connectivity gaps.

What’s detected — and what isn’t

Detected:
  • Domain name where a login occurred (e.g. salesforce.com)
  • Detection method: login_form, oauth_google, oauth_microsoft, saml_sso, url_pattern
  • Whether a work email was used (boolean — the address itself is never stored)
  • Login timestamp
  • All browser extensions installed on the device (name, version, permissions, deployment method)
Never detected:
  • Page content, text, or HTML
  • Specific URL paths (only the domain)
  • Form inputs, passwords, or keystrokes
  • Consumer domains (google.com, youtube.com, reddit.com, social networks, etc.)
  • Personal browsing on excluded domains

Where results appear in Porcia

Data appears in Porcia within 5–10 minutes of a login event. If you’ve just installed the extension, log into a few work apps and wait a few minutes to see results.

For workspace admins — team view

As a workspace admin, browser extension data from all enrolled employees appears aggregated across the Security → Browser section. You can see:
  • Which AI tools the team is using and how often
  • Password reuse and weak credential signals across domains
  • File uploads to AI chatbots and cloud storage
  • Shared account usage
  • All installed browser extensions across the org with risk scores
Individual-level data (which specific user logged into what) is visible in Assets → Accounts with appropriate admin permissions.

Updates

The extension updates automatically via the Chrome Web Store. No action required. To force an update check: go to chrome://extensions/ → enable Developer mode → click Update.

Uninstalling

Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar → find Porcia → Remove from Chrome. Or go to chrome://extensions/ → Porcia → Remove. Uninstalling stops all data collection. Historical data in Porcia is preserved unless you explicitly delete it.

Troubleshooting

Events sync in batches every 5 minutes. Wait a few minutes. If still missing, open the extension popup and check for sync errors. Try clicking Sync Now in extension settings.
This can happen after a browser restart if a previous pause wasn’t manually resumed. Click the extension icon and check the pause/resume state.
Add the domain to your exclusion list in Settings → Excluded Domains. It will be ignored from that point forward.
Go to chrome://task-manager/ to check the extension’s memory usage. If unusually high, try restarting the browser. Contact support if it persists.
