Once installed, the extension can add application-usage and security context to your Porcia workspace. The exact signals depend on your workspace policy, extension version, browser support, and enabled controls.

How detection works

A supported signal is detected locally

The extension detects an enabled application or security signal in the browser without recording general page content.

Controls are applied

Pause state, built-in consumer-site exclusions, browser privacy settings, and workspace policy determine whether the signal is kept.

Approved context is synchronized

Enabled signal categories and the context needed for the related Porcia feature are synchronized periodically when connected.

Results appear in supported workspace views

Depending on configuration, signals can contribute to Apps, Accounts, Security Browser, AI usage, findings, or other governance views.

Extension controls

Click the Porcia icon in the toolbar to see the connection and sync status, sync now, or open settings.

Pausing detection

Where your workspace allows it, you can pause detection from Porcia. Nothing is collected or queued while paused. Managed deployments may not offer pause.

Excluded sites

Common consumer sites, such as search engines, social media, and streaming services, are excluded from app discovery automatically.

Incognito mode

Detection in private browsing is off by default. It can be turned on through the browser’s own extension settings or your organization’s browser policy.

Offline mode

Signals captured while offline are kept on the device, up to a limit, and sent when the connection returns.

Signal categories

Depending on enabled controls, the extension can contribute:
  • Domain-level SaaS login and authentication activity
  • Work-account usage context
  • Installed browser-extension inventory
  • AI-tool usage and related security signals
  • File activity or sensitive-data warnings
  • Password, API-key, OAuth, or shared-account risk signals without password values
The extension is not a general browsing-history recorder and does not record keystrokes or send password values.

Where supported signals appear

The exact views and user-level visibility depend on workspace permissions and enabled features.
Synchronization is periodic rather than a continuous recording stream. Timing depends on browser state, connectivity, policy, and the enabled feature.

For workspace administrators

Administrators may see organization-level trends and supported security signals from enrolled devices. Individual-level visibility is controlled by workspace role and data scope. Use the extension installation and managed-deployment guidance for organization-wide rollout. Use the privacy page for collection categories and data requests.

Updates and uninstalling

The extension updates through the browser’s supported distribution channel. Uninstalling stops future collection from that device; historical workspace data is managed separately through workspace data-management controls.

Troubleshooting

Synchronization is periodic. Check the extension connection state, pause state, browser permissions, and workspace policy before retrying.
Resume detection from Porcia. A workspace policy or browser setting may also affect availability.
Contact your workspace administrator about excluding the site.
